My Favourite Things At The Moment

I randomly want to post my favourite things at the moment. I believe that remembering my favourite things would keep my positivity. I've just lost my grudge towards a group of people because they are now suffering what I suffered for years. During those years, I've kept too much negativity in me. So, since now I don't feel like I need a reason to hate life anymore, I'm trying to maintain my long-lost positivity so that I won't lose it anymore.

So here, we go. The list of my favourite things:

1. I LOVE Islam. I feel grateful for being born as a Muslim. I love The Qur'an. It's the greatest book on earth despite the fact that many people often misunderstand it. I'm planning to explicate some religious concept from the Qur'an with NSM for my Seminar on Semantics' essay. And today I just bought a book on the translation of keywords in Qur'an verses to support my essay. I also have borrowed Toshihiko Izutsu's book on the semantic analysis of some concepts in the Qur'an. He once analyzed those concepts with conceptual semantics theory. I'm trying to make a more intense analysis on the same matter, but via NSM, of course.

2. I LOVE books. Or rather, the things I learn from books. Thus, I really like things that are related to books as well. I like libraries, bookshops, a nice old man who sells books at the ANU Thursday market, goodreads, and so on, and so forth. I used to be a slow reader when I was a child. That's why I've always had more eagerness to read compared to other children. Because I couldn't read as fast as they did, and it always embarrassed me. But whenever I feel like 'into' the content of the book, I guess I can't stop reading. But that depends on what kind of book I read anyway. I usually don't like teenlit books or anything that I consider will not broaden my knowledge.

3. I LOVE listening to music. No, not playing. I can't play any instrument properly. Of course I can play flute, pianica, and a bit of drum. But that's because I was forced to play them when I was in school, otherwise I won't pass the subject. But anyway, I like listening to music. My favourite type of music is rock. But I also like pop, techno, alternative, jazz, country, folk, classic etc... anything. As long as I feel like it, then I like it. That doesn't mean I like every kind of music, though. I can only say I like some musicians, and I might despise other musicians. My favourite musicians are Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, and... of course SNSD. They're musicians, too. Piss off, antis! LOL.

4. I LOVE languages. I can speak Indonesian, English, Japanese, some German, and some French. I understand very basic Arabic, Batak, and Javanese too. And I'm now learning Gamilaraay, an Aboriginal languge spoken in New South Wales. But I think I'm not fluent in any of them, except for Indonesian, of course. Aside from my interest in learning languages, I also like to analyze languages. And that's why I love linguistics.

5. I LOVE being alone. And this is why I love Canberra. I have too much time for myself. I can go anywhere by myself. I can enjoy the world from my own point of view. No one even protests. I wish I could do the same thing in Jakarta. But if I do that in Jakarta, people will call me selfish. Well, maybe I am (selfish).

6. I LOVE badminton. Again, I'm not a player. Only an observer. But that's how I like it. I miss watching badminton matches. It is not really popular in countries other than China and Indonesia. So sad.

7. I LOVE helping troubled students. Because I think I was once in their position. I want to help people whom are not understood by most people. I want to understand them, because I know how it feels to be not understood. That's why I really want to teach students with learning disabilities. I hope I can do that when I came back to Indonesia.

8. I LOVE journalism. Especially journalism that doesn't take side too much on particular groups. I would like to be able to report news on sports, economics, education, women, culture, environment, and entertainment. But NOT politics. I HATE political news.

9. I LOVE classic literature and a few contemporary short stories. I don't hate contemporary literature. I just feel like I'm more attached to those works by Tolstoy, Neruda, Pirandello, Chekov, Achdiat K. Mihardja, etc. Somehow I can understand those people from the past better than I understand people who live today. Except for Sapardi Djoko Damono and Seno Gumira Ajidarma. They're brilliant.

10. I LOVE things provided for children. No, I don't love children in general. Sometimes they annoy me. But I love children literature (esp. those written by Roald Dahl). And I love dolls, any television program for children, movies about children, etc. The thing I like about my childhood is because people provide me good child stuff. I like child stuff.

Well, that's about it at the moment. Maybe I'll have more things to add later on. If that happens, I'll just edit this post.

Well, nobody reads this blog anyway. And that's how I like it.
